Why Is Google's Logo Replaced By A Barcode Today?

Today, October 7, Google's logo is replaced by a barcode. Kinda makes you feel like you're in a supermarket or something right? But why is it that way? Here's why:

The barcode was patented today on 1952. The patent was filed last October 20, 1949.
